Performance

An app's memory usage keeps increasing over time

Among performance issues, “memory leak” symptoms may be related to app or driver memory leaks, browser extensions, or background processes. After returning memory settings such as XMP/EXPO to default, perform diagnostics and module/slot cross-testing.

Solving Order
We've organized the methods starting with the simplest and least expensive ones. Please check the solutions one by one, starting from the top.

Do you have these symptoms?

  • memory leak
  • RAM usage continues to increase
  • Program memory does not decrease

main causes

  • App or driver memory leak
  • Browser extensions/background processes

How to solve

Please check them in order from the top. If the issue is resolved, you do not need to proceed to the next step.

1

Disable XMP/EXPO and memory overclocking and check

Memory profiles use higher speeds than rated and may be unstable depending on system combination.

Difficulty Moderate time 10-20 minutes cost 0 won
  1. 1Disable XMP/EXPO in BIOS.
  2. 2Leave the memory speed as Auto or default.
  3. 3Try using it enough to see if the symptoms disappear.

confirmation point

After these steps, see if the “memory leak” symptoms decrease or disappear. If there is no change, check for possible app or driver memory leaks in the next step.

2

Running memory diagnostics

RAM errors can be confirmed by repeated crashes, blue screens, and file corruption.

Difficulty Moderate time 30 minutes to several hours cost 0 won
  1. 1Run Windows Memory Diagnostic or Trusted Boot Memory Check.
  2. 2If an error occurs even once, check each module and slot individually.
3

Recheck RAM installation status

If the module is not fully inserted or has poor slot contact, capacity loss or POST failure may occur.

Difficulty Advanced time 15-30 minutes cost 0 won
  1. 1Turn off your PC completely and unplug the power cable.
  2. 2If you have experience working inside a PC, remove and reseat the RAM until both retaining clips lock.
  3. 3Check the recommended slot order on your motherboard.
4

Cross-test one by one or slot by slot

This will help you distinguish between bad modules and bad slots.

Difficulty Advanced time 30 minutes or more cost 0 won
  1. 1If there are multiple modules, test them one by one.
  2. 2Check other slots for modules that appear to be normal.
  3. 3If the error is traced to a specific module, suspect its RAM.
5

Check BIOS updates and memory compatibility

In particular, the new CPU/DDR5 combination improves memory compatibility with BIOS updates.

Difficulty Advanced time 20~40 minutes cost 0 won
  1. 1Check your motherboard manufacturer's support page for BIOS changes.
  2. 2Please refer to the memory QVL and CPU support list.
  3. 3Avoid power loss during BIOS update.
